Fat-dissolving injections, also known as injection lipolysis, is a cosmetic procedure designed to reduce localized fat deposits.
The most common treatment involves Kybella®, an FDA-approved injectable containing deoxycholic acid, used to eliminate fat under the chin. While Kybella® is specifically approved for the submental area (under the chin), other formulations, often using compounded deoxycholic acid with or without phosphatidylcholine and deoxycholate (PCDC), are used off-label for other body areas.
These injections work by permanently disrupting and destroying fat cells, which are then gradually removed by the body.
